Camping Out: Specialists

Kicker/punter: Sam Foltz is the team's punter, and sneakily quite popular on the team. He has the personality, for one thing, and he was much more than a punter in high school. Foltz is the No. 1 holder, as well.

Drew Brown should win the starting kicking job over Jamie Sutcliffe. It took a few field goal kicks Sunday to make that clear. As to who wins the kickoff specialist job, we'll see.

My brother is a punting/kicking instructor with his own school. He worked with the punters at Illinois before last season. The kid showed a lot of improvement, finishing high in the conference and national rankings. He wanted to work with Sam but the previous staff would never get back to him.

He'd make him great.

I'd like to hear more about Jamie Sutcliffe. He could be a hidden walk-on gem on our roster. Like Alex Henery was a few years ago. #WishfulThinking

Sounds like Brown pretty much has won the job. He's looked good and Sutcliffe hasn't looked particularly good.

Oh boy. Changing a kickers mechanics can be tough. Hope we get it figured out well before that big time moment we need Brown to nail one.

I don't think it's a complete overhaul of his mechanics. I just think it's reinforcing the idea of squaring Brown's hips on the kicks, especially the kicks from the right hash.

From everything I have heard about Brown in Fall Camp is that he has been great and there is no competition for the place kicking duties.

Ah, I see. Thanks.

I think Brown has the place kicking spot locked up, amazing what a better long snapper can do for timing to make you more accurate and even greater distance. Sutcliffe does have a very strong leg though. LINK
Little snippet from Teach's Insider thread. I wanna hear more about Sutcliffe. He was highly touted a couple years back when he came out of high school. Might be good!

I really haven't seen any specifics. But several media guys are now saying that Brown is clearly better. Kicking FGs at least. I haven't seen anything about kickoffs.
