Nice read by Sam McKewon about changing how he does things and trying not to be too perfect.

IMO this is what it comes down to, our player play too tight especially in the big games, when a couple of things go bad fast. To many of them are worried about not making a big mistake and then when they do they can't put it behind them. That is BP's fault. You can strive for perfection, but you have to let them know that it is rarely attainable.

You have to play because it is fun.

Yeah, this is a positive article in the middle of all of this negativity. I hope that the changes actually happen and it affects the team in a positive way.

I'd agree that this is part of the problem. I still maintain the main problem is not having an outside defensive coordinator with experience that is allowed to just do his thing with Bo focuses on being the HC. More than anything, I think that would show us a vast improvement in how the defense plays, because I do believe Bo is not surrounded by people who challenge him right now. Or at least Bo is not allowing them to challenge him. Either way, that needs to change.

But yeah, good article and maybe it signals the beginning of further changes for Bo.

I honestly feel the reason we have such shortcomings is the playcalling and the players tensing up and fearing for the worst to happen. You can see it every game we crumble, everything is going smooth then one fumble or interception or missed tackle and we just unravel. A quote I think sums up perfectly the mentality of our players when something unexpected happens is Shane Falco's about quicksand in "The Replacements", "You're playing and you think everything is going fine. Then one thing goes wrong. And then another. And another. You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can't move... you can't breathe... because you're in over your head. Like quicksand."
