Ciante Evans helmet damage

I was gonna start a new thread about this but this is as good a thread as any to add to. Do you think the new helmet rule is having a positive effect? Is it me, or does it seem like there are far fewer or any at all helmets coming off during games anymore? Do any of you think coaching staffs all over the country have cracked down on their players to get the helmets strapped tight for fear of losing a key player for a play at a critical point in the game? I think so.
Unless you're Matt McGroin throwing a hissy fit...

I think it's a good rule. The players are more apt to snap all of their straps. Not allowing a player to continue a play once their helmet comes off is a good rule also.

To the new helmet rule, during one of the thursday night games they said helmets were actually coming off more this season. Dont hold me to that being true, just what they said.

At the beginning of the season they were, but honestly in our last three or four games I struggle to remember someone losing their helmet. Maybe there were one or two in that span that I didn't catch, but they seem to be staying on in the second half of the season.

And I think that saying helmets were coming off more at the beginning of the season is kind of a skewed perception simply because with the new rule, a helmet coming off is 1000 times more noticeable becuase the player having to leave the game, and the officials explanation making it an event within the game. Before, helmets coming off were probably not even noted. Dont know that there is even any stat tracking to even justify either side of that point.

It does seem to me theyve been coming off less and less as the season wears on, in all games that I look at, not just ours.

I think the NCAA actually did a study and has official stats on helmets coming off, not sure where you would find it though. But there numbers showing incidents on the rise was major justification for the new rule.

This rule is a good one overall. It can be frustrating at times but lets be honest. If the players strap up all of their straps like they are supposed to the helmets will work properly and that will help bring down the number of concussions.
