clearing the air

Travis9

Five-Star Recruit
I want to clear the air mainly because i am new to the board and do not want to start off on the wrong foot.

I am a greedy fan, i want wins all sorts of wins and no losses. I want titles Big 12 and NC all sorts of titles.

I am a die hard just like all of you. I respect and like every player that steps on the field for us, period.

so when i say that i would rather see a certain player play it is not a knock on the other player.

There has been much debate about Swift, Petersen, and Ruud. They are huskers so i think they are great.

But....... Remember I want Championships nothing less. I dont believe that championships are available with swift and petersen being your primary receivers or with Ruud being a mainstay on Defense.

I reiterate, that while they are nice players very nice players, they are not what is needed to get us over the hill. It is our staffs job to take the more skilled and more athletically gifted recruits and coach them up past and beyond the players playing.

If that is done, then i dont believe you will see Ruud playing Defense much next year, or swift and petersen running routes much next year.

in conclusion, bashing these HUSKERS is not my objective. We as fans all want the same thing CHAMPIONSHIPS. To get these we need to hope that the more skilled and athletic players step up to their potential and outplay the current players. If they do then these players wont be on the field, if they dont then we will see a lot of the same results

Their is a reason that Purify peaked and declined, teams realized that Taylor had limitations, they doubled MOPURE and trusted that the other WR took a step longer to get open and that Taylor was who he was. If the more athletic WR step up teams will not have that luxury.

Teams ran and threw at Ruud because the coaching staffs new he had limitations. If the more talented players step up then that luxury is gone.

No matter who plays Ill be there regardless the weather with pride. after all i am A HUSKER.

side NOTE How bout this....... If Asante is everything we have heard, why not Green and Thenarse at safety with Dillard in the Middle and Asante and Octo on the outside. That is instantly much more speed and nastiness

OH WELL you can dream big

Have a great day All

I can agree on most of your points and I haven't taken any of your posts to be offensive thus far. Even if I do as long as their is no personal attacks against any board members hey that's cool. Everyone has their own opinion and they are entitled to it. I think we do need more speed on the defensive side of the ball because speed is key to the defense I believe. I understand you don't want undersized guys and etc. etc., but we can't have everything. I believe Callahan is the man to take us back to the promised land. It will happen. Next year will be a great view of what Callahan can actually do considering the recruits that he is getting. We had to work with what we had this year and do some "patching" if you will in certain spots and mainly the secondary. I am excited about the future for our great program and I HONESTLY believe a championship of some sort is on the horizon. Whether that is a Big XII Championship or a National Championship that remains to be seen..................................I HOPE BOTH!!!!

Welcome to the board.... I am one who disagreed with your first post referring to starters and subs and recruits concerning playing time....... the cool thing is, we all want the same thing....Nebraska back on top like what many of us alumns and long time fans are used too.....

AND

as fans, board members, we all have DIFFERENT ideas, philosophies, and beliefs on how we can accomplish this....the fact is, no of us can control it, so all we can do is express our opinions on boards like this with many, many Husker fanatics..... We are all entitled to our philosophy, and as long as people don't personally attack anyone, no offense should ever be taken.....

Welcome....and feel free to agree/disagree with anything you like.

I like speed and nastiness in my women as well as defense......

Welcome and I shall have a great day

Yes and no....these players aren't the most skilled, but I really like Swift, every team needs a guy like him. Anyone ever notice that sometimes these guys are wide open....that's from schemes and play calling. We could put most anyone in there, to an extent.

Swift is a good receiver that makes tough catches and rarely makes mental mistakes. He plays a lot because he is consistent and tough.

I like Swift because I seen some impressive catches out of him this year and he fought pretty hard against Missouri the whole game.......

Yep... I totally agree with this (bold).

He sure took a big hit agaisnt A&M early in that game. And also got crunched as he made the catch against UT for the 2pt conversion. Yah man, he delivers.

Nate is also (arguabaly) the best route runner on the team.
I concur as well. Before the season started he said he knows ALL the plays and comfortable with them. He scored on the halfback pass against Lucky. The route thing...you got to get open first, then make the catch. Cha-ching!

Remember the catch down the sideline against KU???? HUUUUGE.

Yah man, I think Swift can ball. Good to hear he's getting some Husker love.

Welcome to the board and I agree with most of your points as well, but what we have to remember is that while some players have physical limitations others have mental limitations as well. Some players are extremely athletic, but if they can't learn our grasp their assignments they become a liability out there. We know Nate isn't as gifted athletically as other players, but he might have a better understanding of the offense and it's mental aspects which makes the coaching staff feel more comfortable. It's been obvious that our biggest problem areas are at WR and DB, and the coaching staff has obviously been addressing these issues through recruiting, but until we get the right players were stuck with the best possible at the time.
