Coaching Change Protocol

When coaching changes happen like they did for the Huskers this year, does it always follow the same script? Meaning...someone will be appointed interim coach for the bowl game. We've hired Riley...doe newly hired coaches like him ever jump right in and coach the bowl game? Does he go to the game? Does he hang with the team before, during and after? Does he have any input? Or is he a complete outsider until the game is over?

Always works like we did it. HC is out. Assistants coach the bowl game. New staff takes over after the bowl game (asking there is one).

Sometimes schools in bowl games are left without coaches because the coach has moved to another school (e.g., Colorado State this year).

But most schools don't fire their coaches if they're gong to bowl games. Nebraska seems to be the only school that fires their 9-3 head coach before a bowl game. But then again, that's why Nebraska fans are special snowflakes.

Ignoring your snarky remark, you do realize that there are a lot of 7-5 teams in bowl games that make coaching changes.

Will Riley be at the game? If so, how close will he be..in the stands...in a coaching box....on the sidelines?

Riley stated he would be at the game, in the stands.

One reason it is done this way, the past staff coaches the game, the new staff spends time on recruiting, evaluating, and deciding on pushes for their needs. Urban had his whole staff selected and worked hard to improve the recruiting staff. I feel confident that Coach Riley is doing the same.

When you have a turd in the toilet tuna, do you leave it set around for a few days?

Even if the HC will not be retained, they should still be able to coach the bowl game.

It would not matter either way of winning or losing but at least give him the honor of leading the team to a bowl. The admin did not let him finish what he started and the new HC is waiting in the wing to take over anyway as the old staff in preparing for the bowl game. Back in a time in college football, they usually wait till after a bowl game to dismiss an HC, not before. The AD jumped the gun.

Can you imagine how much more toxic things would be with the guy that took his job around the facilities, and Bo still coaching?

If the coach is fired - he is gone.

If the coach retires, he is there.

If the coach resigns, there are options. He can coach the bowl or not depending on mutual consent.
