With the retirement of Bobby Bowden and the firing of Charlie Wies, I was kind of thinking if the days of coaches staying for 10+ years are gone? Really who would have thought that after TO retired that NU would have had 3 different head coaches in 12 years! Same with ND. CFB has become nothing but money and prestige. Win titles and you stay, have more than 2 losing seasons and the hot seat is on. What do we expect of Pelini? Is he the guy that will give NU 10+ years of stability and build his own legacy? Or if we stay the course of middle of the pack Big 12 is he gone?

 
How about stoops. He's closing in on 10. He started in what 2000? Course Joe Pa's not gone yet...Pete Carroll?

 
This is Stoops' 10th year at Oklahoma. Pinkel has been at Missouri since '01, but things like that don't really count unless you are an elite program (in my opinion).

Will there be a coach who stays at a school for 34+ season ever again? I doubt it. The scholarship rules not only affect the players/programs, it affects the coaches as well. For Universities it is now what have you done for me lately?

 
I think Beamer, Joe Pa, Pete Carroll, Mack Brown and Bob Stoops are the only current legitimate prospects when you think of "coaching legacies", because all coach at prestigious schools.

I'm not surprised there are less than there used to be. Not that many people spend 40 years with the same company like the old days too. We're a more mobile society.

But yeah, money is the big factor. When they were making 5 figure salaries, it was easier to accept .500 records. At 7 figures, it raises eyebrows and you expect better results. And some that get great results jump to the NFL, or higher profile jobs. RichRod might've been a fixture at WV in the old days, now he jumps to Michigan for much bigger bucks.
