Cocky Tigers

It clearly appears that Mizzou is feeling its oats:

Evidently, Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel is counting on a Tiger victory Saturday night against Nebraska.
The Columbia Missourian, the Missouri student newspaper, reported that Pinkel sent a campus-wide e-mail encouraging MU students to show restraint and not rush the field.

“Good sportsmanship is vital to our university’s reputation and our team’s success,” Pinkel said in the email. “We encourage our fans to enjoy the game safely and responsibly.”
And:

"Our confidence is so high," running back Tony Temple told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We're thinking they gotta play us, not we've gotta play them. That's it. They better be ready."
And of course:

"We've got to kill those guys," Brown said of Nebraska. "I just want to kill them. We need to beat them by three touchdowns or more."

We'll see what kind of character the Huskers have. They've been called out. Many in Husker Nation (including myself) are doubting them. They are going into a hostile environment against a very confident and talented opponent.

I'll be honest, I see a big Mizzou win here, but let's see if the Huskers have something in them...

I am glad that they feel like they do and are talking about it. It iwll be even better watching tears run down their face (MU)when the scoreboard tells the story of how far they have yet to go.

GBR

Hell yea! Let them talk their crap. It just feeds the fire! Unless our beloved Huskers are pussies and don't pay any attention to it and don't get rowled up a little! GBR GBR GBR!!!!

Not to burst any bubbles but wasn't there something about an email that BC sent around before the USC game. I think this is kind of a standard thing nowadays that the NCAA wants schools to do. I personally doubt that it does any good but bureaucrats like NCAA think politically correct messages about calm celebration will actually keep any such celebrations calm.

Also, if I am wrong, I hope somone can supply the actual language but I would assume that if the email actually said "dont rush the field" it would have been quoted and attributed to Pinkel. Somehow I doubt that head coach actually said that and this wouldn't be the first time a student newspaper, or any newspaper for that matter, stated as fact that which is really only wishful thinking on the part of the author, i.e. that Mizzery will have a reason to rush the field.

With all that said, I go into Saturday night with my heart full of excited anticipation that the BC era will turn the corner and worry that it won't, much the same as I've come to watch EVERY game since the 90's NC years. Meanwhile, all I can say is

Go Big Red!

While I'm apprehensive about the game like any NU fan, I just wonder where Mizzou gets off thinking this is going to be some kind of cakewalk. Sure, they're at home, and they have a good offense. But last I checked their defense sucks worse than ours. I just don't get why they are already chalking up a W on the schedule.

I hope the MU students and everyone else do follow Pinkel. Why rush the field again.. its not like MU has never beat NU so please show some good sportsmanship say good game and walk away. No need to go ape shlt and do idiotic classless things... again

I do hope that we beat Mizzou, but considering BC's record against ranked teams I am still quite apprehensive. On the other hand, knowing Pinkels coaching ability gives me a more positive attitude.

Neither coach should be to smug until after the game.

Should be a very exciting game saturday. As long as Nebraska is winning at the half (Unfortunate fact: Callahan is 0-13 after trailing at half), we should win, we're a much better second half team.

GO BIG RED

As a Nebraska native and Mizzou Alum living in Columbia. I am here to tell you MU does not think this will be a cakewalk at all. This is a toss-up game. Turnovers will tell the story here.

I think the talent level is even ..that may be hard for Sker fans to admit, but the NU of the 90's is gone.

I hope for a great game, no injuries on both sides and may both Callahan and Pinkel both improve as coaches making game day decisions...god knows they both need it.

Hey Tyger, I too am a Nebraska native living in Columbia. Where are you from?

From Fremont. Wife from Gothenburg.

You? I am a 2X MU alum.
I am from Giltner (small town in between Grand Island and Hastings). I went to Truman, but I work at Mizzou and am working on a Masters part time, so someday I will be alum.

Columbia is crazy already. There are tons of people in town already. You can not drive on campus now there is so much traffic.

What are you getting your Masters in?
