Cody Green Article

I thought your article was pretty well thought through. You definitely bring up some good points.

It made me think of the Leak/Tebow arrangement the Gators had a couple of years back as well. In that situation Leak maintained the starting position, but when Tebow came in everyone held their breath. It will be exciting to hear how Green does in spring ball and adjusts to all the pressure (of things like being compared to Terrel Pryor) as well as how the other quarterbacks compete for the job.

You think Green will get the start at some point?

Hey Guys, I wrote a new article on examiner.com on whether or not Cody Green will compare to Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor, let me know what ya think.

Thanks I appreciate the comments. Personally, I could see Green starting next year as a possibility. Unless they decide to redshirt him regardless of how much better he might perform in practice that the other 3 QB's (which I dont think would happen). If Pelini and Watson give him a shot at splitting time, I find it highly possible that Green could outshine Witt or Lee after maybe 4-5 games. I wouldn't plan on it, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised. If that were to be the case and he did start, I think they would still throw in Witt or Lee for a change of pace in certain situations.

I like the enthusiasm about this kid, but time will tell, I personally would like to see him RS unless he just completely blows away the other guys in the spring and fall practices before the season opens, just don't want to see the kid thrown under the bus if he does not live up to the hype. The kid needs time to grow into a college football player.

My thoughts exactly, the kid must show something to order to have the effect I talked about. If it's clear the learning curve is going to be rather large, redshirting is the way to go.

If it was up to me...redshirt him for a year, then bring him in and let him learn to play. I think Green is the real thing. I will go on record saying that now.

Very nice article, but if Green competes and wins the job I don't have a problem with him starting

I thought it would be automatic that he would red shirt this year. Now I'm not sure. With him being enrolled already, and getting ready for spring practices, he has almost as much of a chance at getting playing time, as the other two. How quick he can pick up offense will determine if he sees the field this year.IMO.

Good read.

GBR!!!

If he is going to redshirt, then they need to let him stay on the bench until the following season, I don't want to see them burn the redshirt and then not have him starting the whole season. This kid is special.

Guess I'll play spoiler on this one.

It seems everyone is speaking with the assumption that Green is a speed demon at QB. This is not the case, he is a solid 6' 4'' 220 with the ABILITY to scramble. He is NOT Tommie Frazier.

To get the most out of Cody's skills, he will need to be patiently brought around to the intricacies of the passing game at NU. Without this knowledge he will be lost, and running for his life! And that's not smart football.

I know he's the fresh face on campus, and everyone expects him to be Vince Young and Eric Crouch all rolled into one. But I'm sorry to say it, but this is not NCAA football on the PS3. Watson can't just plug him in and run QB options all day. His transition will take time, and especially some patience by us (in this case) overly optimistic fans.

Couldn't agree more. If the kid is the best for the job give him the start! I don't think Green is as ready as somebody like Terrell Pryor (sp?) was, but if the kid gets the playbook down and does what he needs to do then he deserves it. I like to think of the kid as a young Vince Young, he has almost the same body type minus a few inches, but he's a much better pocket passer than Young was coming out of high school.

and.... I don't think his foot is 100% yet. I am guessing it is close, but why risk it.

RS him, let him get confident in making reads and passing, get that foot at 100%, get some strength and condish, so in 2010 we can unleash the fury, Mitch.

No matter how you calculate it if you RS him he would be a better player and our team would be a better off in the long run except for this year. Dang we needed him to come in last year!! :)
