Colt McCoy also "killed it" at pro day

FYI, the Rams weren't in attendance but have scheduled a private workout with Colt McCoy before the draft.

Sam Bradford is so yesterday. Two days after the Oklahoma quarterback impressed scouts by completing 62-of-63 throws, UT's Colt McCoy threw publicly for the first time since he injured in shoulder in the national championship game.
He threw 55 passes and none touched the turf.

"I've been waiting for this day for a long time,'' McCoy said. "I wanted to throw bad at the combine. The doctors wouldn't let me throw. So I've just really been preparing for this, and I thought I went out and killed it today.

"When you go 100 percent, there's really not much you do wrong. I felt like today was really good.''

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy watched Bradford on Monday and was present for McCoy's exhibition today. His thoughts on the two:

"I like this workout better from the fact, I thought Colt was challenged more in his workouts as far as the type of throws,'' McCarthy said. "I thought in Sam's workout, he was very accurate, but Sam's workout was very controlled. He didn't do as much movement and as many driving throws, in my opinion.

"I thought Colt's workout was more challenging. He had the more down the field, driving type throws, which personally, I always look for because I think you get more information out of those.''

This'll be interesting...

Bradford had a heck of a pro day, but so did Jamarcus Russell. Granted, I think Bradford has a much better shot. But Colt's no slouch either.

I think both these guys have a great shot at the next level. Hopefully they both step into good situations. Bradford, I think if they can get another year and a half out of Bulger, it would be terrific for Bradford. Colt, can be drafted hopefully in the Round 2-4 region, where the expectations will be lower, he'll be waiting in the wings for a couple years on a strong team, and then get his shot in a good environment.

If Colt gets a good line in front of him, I think he'll be a good QB someday. He could be a Drew Brees type since they share similar measurables. Just like Brees, McCoy's an accurate passer. He was a 70+ % passer his last 2 years and broke Daunte Culpepper's completion percentage record in '08 with 77.6%. He might just be the sleeper pick in the draft and will make some franchise very happy in the future.

Colt has continued to impress me this year. I didn't think every highly of him last year, but I think he's really proven he can be legit at the next level. But with that said, :hookerhorns .

Another over-hyped performance, imho. McCoy played pretty poorly against the three best defenses he played last year, but one doesn't really count given he got injured before the first quarter was even out. I still think this drill is overrated. It's just pass and catch. Some difficult throws, some easy throws, but there is still no pressure involved other than the pressure to look good.

It's a good thing Colt killed it at his pro day workout. Otherwise he might not have gone as high as the 133rd pick in the draft.

Hookem Whorns!!
