Combine

Asante just ran a 4.69 40. Didn't look 4.69 but you don't know, I'm calling BS right now. Looked more like in the 4.5s or something but I'm going to guarantee it wasn't that high.
I saw a 4.63, still isn't very good. 14 reps on the bench. He isn't doing much to help his stock so far.

wow... thats terrible. esp the bench. normally on stuff like this someone chimes in with the mandatory "its not like you could do better" but when i was in college I dont know I couldnt have. I know I could easily beat 14 reps. hopefully he was sick or something and comes up big in his next combine.

I don't follow the Combine so much, but is 14 reps on the bench that unusual for a Safety? They're not typically big guys.

Average for safeties was between 17 and 18 reps (17.68 to be exact). So 14 was below.

Actually I think 4.63 is about the norm for safeties. The 40 stats are so overstated throughout the year that we're conditioned to think that is slow. I believe 2 years ago the average safety at the combine ran about a 4.6. I think 1 year ago the average safety ran about a 4.55.

Plus, other than Oakland most teams are far more impressed by game films than by track meets.
