Coming to Lincoln

Hello everyone,

First, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

I recently was accepted into, and decided to attend, UNL this upcoming fall. I’m extremely excited, and can’t wait to come to Lincoln and get started. I’ve started searching for a place to live, and I was hoping someone on this board might be able to give me an idea of the area I should be looking at to live (1 bedroom apartments). I will be in the engineering program, and would prefer to not have to walk more than 20 minutes to get to classes and stuff (although I will have a car). Thanks in advance for your help.

Congrats and as an engineering drop out I think I can safely say keep your nose in the books and study, those first two years can make all the difference. I don' know if this applies to you or not but last I knew UNL had a rule that if you were an incoming freshman you had to live on campus unless you were living with a family member or a certain age so that is something to think about too.

Anyways a one bedroom apartment that close to campus is going to be hard to come buy for a decent price. Like someone said Clairmont is a good place to start. Or there is The View (which will be pretty much like living in the dorms). I don't know if they have one bedrooms but I know they do place people with roommates if they need to fill a room and you're feeling adventurous, plus they have a shuttle to campus. Another is Chateau La Fleur it's a straight shot down Vine street to campus, probably 10 minutes driving in rush hour traffic and 15 on bike. Otherwise everything else is going to be at least 10 minutes away by car

Sorry. I should have mentioned this initially, but I will be coming in as a graduate student on a research assistantship. I've looked at places on M street, N 23rd, and S 18th. Would places like that be reasonably close to the main engineering buildings?

Congrats man!! Always good to see out of staters!! hope you got your student football tickets! I don't know exatcly where the engineering buildings are but clairmont is good and also the view apartments is full of college kids although a little further away. Just whatever you do, don't buy a parking pass, it's a rip off and much easier to find a meter or a garage, especially with the new huge one going up, parking won't be a big problem

N 23rd is really close, about as close as you could hope for. Otherwise its the north bottoms - claremont apts are down there (not a study-conducive atmosphere at all, so be warned). Or downtown, where you can expect to pay $7-800 for a 1-bedroom apartment. Don't live at the view.

Now that you that you say you're a grad student I would definitely rule out the view and probably clairmont. If you want to live in a one bedroom and have a decent place I think you will be paying at least $600 anywhere in the city.
