Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook says he always felt the best position for Amber Rolfzen was middle blocker.

Partly out of need, she’s spent her first two years at right-side hitter, but now with college volleyball’s version of a five-star recruit, freshman Mikaela Foecke, ready to slide into the right-side hitter spot for the Huskers, and depleted depth at middle blocker, Cook is ready to see what Rolfzen can do at middle blocker.

While not consistently dominant as an attacker at the right-side hitter spot, Rolfzen was a fine blocker, and was charged with slowing down some of the best hitters in the country. Now, instead of just her corner of the net, she’ll be able to patrol the whole front row.

When practice starts Monday, Rolfzen will be working with the middle blockers, where she’ll compete with seniors Meghan Haggerty and Cecilia Hall to be a regular starter.
