Cool Michigan tradition

For the past three seasons, a Michigan player has switched his jersey number for the season to wear Howard’s No. 21 as part of the Michigan legacy jersey program. Senior wide receiver Jeremy Gallon wears No. 21 this season, and is the third wide receiver to represent the Heisman Trophy winner.

“I think it’s a fantastic honor. I was humbled by it when the athletic director Dave Brandon came up with the concept.”

I hate it. But really because Desmond Howard is a jacka$$.

If you ask me Desmond Howard should be wearing Jeremy Gallon's jersey. Desmond just played on a much better team is all.

Isn't this sort of honor typically reserved for someone a little more inspiring or who transcends the game of football?

Nebraska has a statue honoring Brook Berringer, who was an exemplary teammate and humanitarian, known for his citizenship and charitable service, whose life was tragically cut short. Michigan honors a guy who didn't even complete his college eligibility and makes a living as a blowhard.
