Girl's lemonade stand shut down

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — Police closed down a lemonade stand in Coralville last week, telling its 4-year-old operator and her dad that she didn't have a permit.

An officer told Abigail Krutsinger's father Friday that she couldn't run the stand as RAGBRAI bicyclers poured into Coralville.

A city ordinance says food vendors must apply for a permit and get a health inspection.

Abigail's dad, Dustin Krutsinger, said the ordinance and its enforcers are going too far if they force a 4-year-old to abandon her lemonade stand.

Being a diligent officer of the law, he just wanted them to "Respect my authoritah!"

meh, look at it both ways though, the father of the little girl would be none to happy if a rider got sick from the lemonade and sued him. There are 10's of thousands of riders on Ragbrai and not all are good people. It only takes one incident for things to get ugly that is why they make all towns have their vendors get permits to cover their own behind. A couple of years ago a rider was in an accident and died, the family sued the county since the route was on a county road and won, so the county decided that RAGBRAI was not allowed to run through their county.

It isn't common sense if this little girl is making bank and her dad is doing all the work.

It is a law and they have every right to shut her down.

LINK Sounds to me like they want to stop any liability issues with vendors during the bike race. They only require a vendor permit for the two days of the bike race.

You know what they say, "When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade." Unless you don't have any water or sugar. And then you just eat the lemons and the rind will give you diarrhea.

Bet the cops wouldn't have shut her down if she'd included donuts on her menu.
