Cosgrove article

You know they’re angry when they call him Cosgrove.

It’s like when your mother called you by your first and middle names.

When it’s good, it’s Coz.

When it’s bad, it’s Cosgrove.

Right now, they call him Cosgrove.

Interesting tid-bit:

“He’s hurt. He’s down,” Callahan said. “I tell him to keep his head up. He’s got my full support. He’ll do a great job this week as he hits the practice field … It just hurts. When you have a performance you didn’t expect — that you never even think could happen — it hurts.”

How do you try to make football hurt go away?

You go full pads on Tuesday for the first time since fall camp.

You pit the No. 1s against the No. 1s and have them knock each other around.

You let everyone know that the possibility of personnel changes exists.

You put the entire team together in the film room — something you rarely do — and don’t turn the horror flick off until you’ve honestly assessed every play.

I think it was great callahan did that..the team needed to watch that game film as a team. and practice full pads to see who really deserves to be on the field. Players that want to start will def. show in practice..

I still have confidence in the offense, but there should be no job on defense that is safe. I admire Glenn's efforts vs. USC, but Castille has to get more reps IMO.

I'm impressed by Callahan's remarks.

I was impressed by his remarks and how he handled this, too.

However, I have been less and less impressed with him over the 4 years he's been here. Not because of the play calling or the recruiting or his assistants. Because in every post-game press conference I have ever read, not once has he shown me he truly feels and believes Nebraska should not lose football games. He is way too political in what he says. Maybe he feels that way and doesn't verbalize it, which I'd really like to be the case, but he definitely has not shown it.

I think that stems from coaching in the NFL where feelings mean nothing and the players get payed. Coaches in College ball shouldnt be as replaceable as they are in the NFL. College coaches should say and do what they want when it comes to running the team and not have to be questioned about it. Coach C has to step up and light that fire.

I am happy with how he handled Cosgrove and his comments on him. However, I agree that his answers are a bit too political at times in regards to our team play. Phrases I would like to hear:

"This is not NU football and the fans deserve better from all of us"

"The coaching staff was out coached today, give the other team credit, but we needed to adjust better"

"Our tackling was poor"

"Our offense showed some good things but we need to execute throughout the entire game"

"It's time for the excuses to end, from everyone in that locker room, and get back to championship football"

These are all things with more fire and can be said without upsetting anyone or being disrespectful. Callahan however is a bit more cerebral and I am not sure that is translating to getting the most out of players. He reminds me of a pastor rather than a coach. You know, you can disappoint him but he will forgive you and not stay mad very long, unlike a coach who will have your a$$ on a platter and you might never see the field again.
