Crematorium to heat swimming pool?25 January 2011, 9:46

A council has been criticised for plans to be the first in Britain to use its crematorium furnace to heat a swimming pool.

Town hall chiefs at Redditch want to use the excess heat to warm the pool at the neighbouring Abbey Stadium Sports Centre.

Council chiefs say it will save cash and is a greener way of powering the leisure centre - but local people have expressed concerns at the "eerie" proposals. LINK

This is the kind of thing better left unannounced. It's a good idea, and there's no good reason to waste the heat energy left over from cremations. If you just do it without telling anyone nobody cares.

Yeah, the cat's out of the bag now. I guess they'll have to keep burning coal instead of coffins.

Then again once you start witholding information you have started down a very slippery slide.

They always withhold information. I am sure this was: "hey we are saving money and this is how" type of deal.

Now if they had done this after a season of people already swimming in it, I am sure ppl wouldn't have complained as much.

they must burn a LOT of bodies in that joint.

i have had two different houses with pools and they were a small fortune to keep heated- both in arizona's fierce winters.
