Roy CO HSKR
Five-Star Recruit
From rojo:
CU's favored by 13-15 points. This is the last time for that. Here’s why:
.
I. Offenses for 2006:
Colorado Offense: 4-5 starters return to 12 positions (CU lists 3 backfield positions on their depth chart—Tailback, V-Back, Fullback.)
--QB: This will be the big hurdle: Klatt’s gone. #2 QB James Cox (Jr) has played little. (Pass: 12-21-0, Pass Eff. = 91; Rush: 4 for –3 yds).
--Receptions: CU currently has 7 reception leaders with 20+ catches (among WR’s, TE’s, Backs). Three of those return---with 44% of those catches.
--O-Line: The middle three return. Both starting Tackles are gone (in fact three of the top four Tackles are gone).
--Backs: Of the three positions (Tailback, V-Back, Tailback), only one returns a starter (Charles at Tailback).
--TE’s: No starting TE’s return. Klopfenstein will be in the NFL. Sypniewski may be too.
--WR’s: Three of the top four return.
.
Nebraska Offense: 9 starters return
--QB: Zac Taylor returns (55% completions; Pass Eff. = 112).
--Receptions: NU has five with 20+ catches---Swift (38), Nunn (35), Ross (35), Mulkey (23) & Hardy (21). Four return---with 77% of the catches.
--O-Line: Four current starters return (Mann, Austin, Murtha, Slauson… and possibly Fuamatu-Thomas with a medical redshirt).
--Backs: Ross is gone at I-Back. Todd returns at FB.
--TE: Both starters return (Phillips and Sievers).
--WR: Four starters at various times return: Swift (38 catches), Nunn (35), Hardy (21), Fluellen (4). Also Mulkey (23) & Peterson (6). Only LeFlore (10) leaves.
.
II. Defenses for 2006:
Colorado Defense: 8 starters return
--CU loses three top defensive players: DT’s Manupuna and Garee (both ’04 All-Big 12 Hon. Mention) and LB Iwuh (’05 preseason All-American).
.
Nebraska Defense: 7 starters return.
--DT: Gone: LeKevin & Titus.
--DE: Returning: Carriker and Moore. Also Barry Turner.
--LB: Returning: Stewart, Ruud, McKeon. And Octavien.
--CB: Returning: Grixby, Bowman & Green.
--S: Gone: Bullocks & Tiedtke.
.
III. Special Teams:
Colorado:
--Gone: Punter Torp.
--Jr. Kicker Mason Crosby has said that he will consider entering the NFL draft. A factor that may influence his decision: CU’s top 3 snappers this year are Seniors.
Nebraska:
--Gone: Punter Sam Koch.
--Kicker Jordan Congdon returns (and his snappers).
.
IV. Big Changes in Recruiting.
Colorado’s recruiting has gone from good to mediocre-at-best. Nebraska’s has gone from mediocre to excellent. That will start showing next year and beyond.
Colorado's recent recruiting rankings: (Rivals)
--2002: #10
--2003: #19
--2004: #49
--2005: #43
--2006: #68 at present (9 commits: no-5 star, no-4-star, one-3 star recruit)
Nebraska's recent recruiting rankings: (Rivals)
--2002: #40
--2003: #42
--2004: #27
--2005: #5
--2006: #9 at present (13 commits: one 5-star, four 4-star, eight 3-star recruits)
.
The Bottom Line:
The clouds are overtaking Barnett’s time in the sun. Nebraska’s sun is rising. That may show Friday. It definitely will show next year.
Just some things to think about….
