Curenski Gilleylen

JTrain

All-Conference
You might remember him burning the White defense last spring for a 77-yard TD catch. He went on to finish the season with 2 catches for 11 yards. Is he going to have a breakout season this year or he is just going to end up a perennial backup type like Chris Brooks? Anyone heard how he's progressing?

I don't know how he's progressing this year but I remember passes careening off his hands last year like he was the second coming of Frantz Hardy.

If he can't catch, he won't play. Let's hope he has improved in that area. Otherwise, he will be a zero factor, unless he's a good enough blocker and use him only for that purpose.

Well the way they rotate Wr's it will be hard for any of them to have that kind of Breakout year.. They will all help but no big numbers like Swift had...

Damn you for reminding me of that kid :rollin

Rivals did a cool article on Gilleylen and said that his spring practice has been going very well and that he should be a key contributor this year. But, naturally we'll have to wait and see since he was quiet following last years spring game.

By passes, you mean "pass", right?
I suppose. It was a pass to the left heading S to N in Memorial. I don't remember who we were playing. It sure stands out in mymemory when the only time the ball heads his way he drops it so spectacularly. (wide open, perfect pass, etc.)

So he caught 2 outta 3 in his freshman season. Doesn't sound too concerning to me.
One for 5 yards, one for 6 yards, and a dropped pass that should be caught by anyone with a DI scholarship. I'm not trying to be down on him, I just haven't been impressed yet.

Jerry Rice has dropped wide open balls before. So has every big name receiver in the history of the game. I think I forgive him.

Hope you didn't watch the '83 Orange Bowl then when the #1 pick in the NFL draft dropped a WIDE open touchdown pass that would've won the game. Every receiver drops passes, especially when nerves are running high (that was one of the Cures first games).

You're probably right. Did the number one pick in the NFL draft drop wide open passes 1 out of 3 times? (this is sarcasm by the way. I realize I am being unfair and unrealistic. You guys are right)

it's pretty hard to develop "soft hands" ....you either have them or you don't. you can get better, but a good WR seldom has to worry about his hands and holding on to the ball.

Agreed. Practice reports seem to hint that Antonio Bell has excellent hands.
