As he stands before you, all 260 pounds of him, it's difficult to fathom that Davis never played a down of football until he was a senior at Dwyer High School. He was a power forward in basketball but could shoot a little, too, he said. Even so, major college basketball programs weren't exactly lining up at his door. So, at a cousin's urging, he tried football.
He's obviously something of a quick study because he saw action in all 13 games last season, mostly in pass-rush situations, after redshirting in 2015.
He arrived in Lincoln weighing only about 215 pounds. But he had a weight-gain plan and stuck to it.
Gaining that much weight, you better have a plan, right?
"I remember when I got here, they said they were going to put a lot of weight on me," he said. "I just couldn't see where it was going to go."
But he carries his 260 well.
