Bid Red Report:

Assessing the talent: Good pass rusher, tough. He transferred from Don Bosco Prep, probably the premier high school program in New Jersey. A program that is constantly putting out top 100 talent every year, ie Brian Toal (Boston College) and Marcus Ray Garvin (Florida St.) Kind of makes you wonder why he would transfer out of that school. Gee had a brother named Anthony Hampton who ran track and football at Tennessee.

Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 10%

Junior Stats:

45 tackles

6 sacks

2 forced fumbles

1 interception

He only played 6 games in ’04 as he had to abide by transfer rules.

Don't we have enough DE's already?? WHy are we trying to get a guy who is slow?? Wht are all these schools aftert his guy with such poor speed?

IIRC, Gee ran on a injured hamstring to get that slow 40 time.

Also, I don't believe those were Gee's full-season stats.

as far as our depth at DE goes, yes, we have alot of scholarships allocated to that position, but no impact pass rusher. Benard Thomas was our leader in sacks last year at four, which is not exactly impressive. We need a weak side DE that can rush the passer consistanly and not let a Texas Tech quarterback sit in the pocket for 5 seconds and pick our secondary apart. Having that poor a pass defense while still having two members of the secondary go in the top 40 picks says something about our d line.

Gee picks Va. Tech

Englewood senior defensive end Michael Gee hasn't played a down this season, but he has accepted a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Gee, a transfer from Queen of Peace who becomes eligible Friday when the Maroon Raiders play Fort Lee, said he had 25 offers and liked what Tech has to offer.

"It's a perfect fit for me," Gee said. "A lot of schools wanted to move me to linebacker, but I want to play defensive end."

Englewood, ranked 19th in The Record's Top 25, has one of the best defenses in the BCSL American, and the addition of Gee will be a major boost.

"It's going to be fantastic," said coach Bill Davis, who also plans to use Gee at tight end. "The addition of Michael Gee takes some of the pressure off the defense and adds offensive support."
