Defensive Formation/Base and Poor Run Defense

Anyone listen to Sharpe and Benning on 1620. They bring on a guy named Aaron Semm. He is pretty good talking about schemes and x and o's. He went over reason why our defense gets torched by good running teams. It is mostly scheme. If Bo wasn't so stubborn and would change up scheme and how we line up things could be much different.

Even mentions Wisconsin's DC and how when they came into the B1G one of the first things they mentioned was how they knew the most important thing was they needed to stop the run now they were in the B1G and made the changes to do so.

Bo is so worried about giving up the long ball they play it on pretty much every play. Why?? Hell, I'd take the chance on most QBs trying to beat us deep instead of letting guys run all over us. Give it a listen. It's on the podcast from today, segment 13.

Bo's pass defenses are so highly rated for a reason. Because we commit so many guys to stopping it. We don't attack, and we strand our front four on an island. Same as its always been.

i listened. I also laughed at his explanation on the one td run, how we literally had 3 gaps uncovered. And they had 4 blockers for 3 defenders.

It was a problem talked about when we entered the Big Ten. It's a terrible philosophy against running teams and why we always have a soft run defense.

It is Bo's scheme, philosophy, alignments, that get lit up against the run. I feel bad when our players look like fools because of it.
