Defensive Tackles - Probably the Best Combination of Talent and Depth on the Team

Redshirt Freshmen Peyton Newell and Mick Stoltenberg both worked at DT. Newell definitely works there but I really think Stoltenberg is a better fit at DE, especially with the lack of depth there.

Love our big athletic tackles on this team. I think some of their physical gifts were under utilized a bit. Eager to see them coached up in a more aggressive way.

Not gonna lie, that post was after multiple beers.

I think my point was that it sounds stupid to move him to DT when we are deep there and we need DE! Just think moving him inside wouldn't be his choice is all.

Defensive line makes immediate impression

Led by returning starters Maliek Collins and Vincent Valentine at defensive tackle and Greg McMullen and Jack Gangwish (who played in 12 games with three starts when Gregory was injured) at end, Nebraska's top front four could be one of the best in the conference entering the 2015 season. But the main focus for the group will be both the starters taking their games to the next level and also developing dependable depth behind them.

In an effort to bolster the interior defensive line even further, Riley and his staff moved redshirt freshmen Mick Stoltenberg and Peyton Newell from end to tackle this spring. The Huskers also switched redshirt freshman Freedom Akinmoladun from tight end to defensive end to add more depth behind McMullen and Gangwish. While the game experience may be lacking a bit on the outside at end, NU has a young group with some solid potential with guys like A.J. Natter, Joe Keels and Sedrick King. The hope is that a combined group effort can help replicate the production lost with Gregory's departure, especially in the pass rush.

its all about depth, hard to play on the inside and stay healthy all season long......let's hope the new guys develop quickly.

SEEN: Maliek Collins and Vincent Valentine, nearly unblockable. Again. The two defensive tackles wreak consistent havoc in camp against NU's inexperienced guards.

I'm really excited about our DL, but obviously the depth is worrisome. Need at least 1-2 guys to step up. Playing time is there to be earned.
