Did Bo get fired for the move to the B1G?

I have been thinking about this for a while, and starting putting some data together to make the argument (but haven't had the time to finish). However, here is my premise. Bo was hired to win in the Big 12. Bo's first 3 yrs were in the Big 12 and full of fervor, built from solid defensive play and 3 straight Division titles (2 conference title game appearances). From there, we moved to the B1G, and led to some major loses to some power run teams and only 1 of 4 years ending with a Division title/CCG appearance.

In the B1G, most of the loses were not close, and I look at how Bo's defense was designed to stop the spread throwing teams in the Big 12 perfectly (2 safeties high, man-on-man coverage, contain by the front four) but could not stop a run heavy team like those in the B1G.

In the end, Bo's needed to look at the conference switch as a time to not just change recruiting strategies but the defensive philosophy. He did not do that, it is what it is.

He had 4 years in the big ten. That 4 recruiting cycles. Thats a full circle. Hes completely revamped his staff 100% (even the guys who were here to bigin with had different rolls) since thechange. Yet the program was without a doubt regressing, even as talent was, at least obvious to me, was increasing.

Yeah, like I said, they changed the recruiting strategy to get more talent and personnel that fits the conference. However, the defensive scheme did not change. Many would say his defense was "complicated" and we needed to simplify. However, the problem appeared to be that it was a passing defense in a running offense league. As a result, players' that were responsible for gap fits for the run game also had responsibilities in the passing game, and their eyes and mindset were allows on stopping the pass first.
Bend, don't break means keep the offense in front of you to stop passing and big plays, even if that means giving free yards in the run game.

Man, when we hired a defensive guru, I didn't know it was limited to what conference we were in. This changes everything.

No excuses. The closest we came to winning a conference title was 2009. Year TWO of the Pelini era. We have talent just can't get it coached to the point where we are a consistent and dominant football team. Also maybe a different scheme will help, both offensively and defensively.

B1G west is worse than the old Big 12 north division. So no. He should be waltzing backwards into the CCG every year. Pull a win out and you are in a BCS game. Pretty simple. Instead we got blown out at every chance possible.

exactly, well said.

Bo played defense in the Big 10. He of all people should of known how to coach in it with the talent he had in place.
