‘Didn’t Look Like a Freshman’: Rhule Praises Lateef, Raiola’s Leadership & QB Room Growth

It feels like it's been awhile since we've seen QB#2 come into a game and show great promise. I hope he continues to improve and he sticks around.

Going to be hard to keep Lateef around I fear. I'm sure with his performance and poise he showed as a true (highly recruited) freshman in a relief role his phone will be ringing. Only so much money to go around and they'll have to decide if they spend it on a backup. With Dayton coming in next year and Trae Taylor the following year it will be a tough choice.

I am not sure barring a DR injury the Lateef will ever start a game here. That is OK, and you have to be OK with it. It is the way the current game works. We don't have to like it, we just have to live with it.

It's been a while since we've seen QB#2 come into a game and even look like they've actually attempted a pass before.

Is it a given that Dayton is the next in line behind his brother? DR will be a Jr next year while Dayton redshirts.- he may declare for the draft after that. If that occurs then it a battle between Lateef and Dayton for the job. I haven't watched any of Dayton's film, do we know he is or will be a better QB at Nebraska than Lateef? Is Dayton more mobile than Dylan? ( I hope so).

Yes NIL has changed things and it is harder to 'stack' QBs for seasons to follow, but it would be a waste I think to see Lateef leave after we have invested in his development. Rhule's whole mode of operation is : development. It may be worth paying more for experienced backups then throwing money at an unproven player.

It is absolutely not a given that DR is next in line. Rhule has finally got NU in a position to have multiple quality QB’s in the room to compete for the #1 and #2 spots with 4 star/5star talent. Ideally they bring in 1 per year knowing 1 will transfer out and 1 of the other three or four left will be a quality starter.

Hell, not so long ago we were wondering if our QB1 had ever even attempted a hand-off before...

No guarantees for sure. That said, Dayton is looking very good in high school right now. Huge arm, mobile, etc. I think Lateef will have the upper hand if he sticks around due to experience. Will be fun to see how it plays out. Hope our boosters have deep and generous pockets.
