Dirk Chatelain taking some heat today on Twitter

Mike'l Severe and several other people are up-in-arms over the bolded part of this tweet from Dirk today:

Wed thoughts: Suh is great, but 1st team all-pro? Don't think so...Iowa FB is a MESS...Steelers will win Super Bowl by pressuring Rodgers...

More proof he's a dip sh#t. And further proof that the OWH no longer cares about actually covering NU athletics objectively but from an angle only to cause a controversy. We can't trust these guys anymore because all they want to to is tear the program down. It's a pretty venomous sports room.

90% of the time I agree with what Dirk had to say. this though....   .

Is their 2 better DTs out there that had a better year than Suh?? If their is then he may have some logic behind this.

I mean, Suh is a rookie and first team All Pro means he would be one of the top 2 defensive tackles in the game right now.

He certainly merits consideration and I won't argue that he has had an AMAZING first year and deserves to be up there. But I can't slam Dirk too bad for just saying he doesn't think he's top 2 yet. I don't know my DTs very well, but I'll throw out Vince Wilfork's name out there and figure there have to be some pretty worthy DT candidates elsewhere around the league, too. Haloti Ngata's the other guy named here, and that dude's a beast in his own right.

The Old Weird Herald has been at odds with the Huskers off and on for years. I remember back in the 80s deciding I was no longer going to read their stuff because they bashed on the Huskers unnecessarily. It's only in the last few years that I started reading their stuff again.

Honestly what does he expect?! He is surrounded by both Husker and Hawkeye fans! Does this get him more hits or something?

They are fielding two teams so he would have to be one of the top two in the NFC.

you could argue other guys deserve it, but not so much that suh is unworthy which seems to be dirks slant. suh led dt's in sacks with one of the leagues worst back 7 behind him.

I think it is just first team and second team, as opposed to AFC and NFC. So Suh being first team, was out of every DT in the league. The other first team DT (Ngata) is from Baltimore (AFC).

One thing that muddles this a little is 3-4 vs 4-3s, where 3-4 NTs have quite a different job from 4-3 DTs. But regardless of anything, I think Suh already made a name out of himself as a top 5 interior lineman in this league, in year one, which is very, very impressive.

Dirk has not been afraid to grind his axe with this staff, but I don't think any of that would extend to former players...I don't know though.

Actually, the All Pro team is distinct from, and should not be confused with the Pro Bowl selections. The latter of which involves two teams, one for each conference, which consist of the best players at their position. The All Pro first team is sort of like the next level, in which a single team is built consisting of the best players in the league. So, on that basis, you would have to agree that he is among the two best DTs in the NFL right now.

This means that Suh would be in the top two among these 6 players:

1) Haloti Ngata, Baltimore

2) Vince Wilfork, New England

3) Richard Seymour, Oakland

4) Ndamukong Suh, Detroit

5) Jay Ratliff, Dallas

6) Justin Smith, San Francisco

I would say that concept is a little surprising, though not as disgustingly shocking as Dirk made it seem. I would respectfully suggest that Suh's selection is partly a result of the fact that it's been a relatively quiet year for DTs in the NFL. No one really stood out as exceedingly dominant. On the other hand, I can think of many defensive ends that had big years, though. (Freeney, Peppers, Abraham, etc.)

Thanks for the clarification

I read Peter King frequently and have a fair amount of respect for his opinions. He aggreed w/ Dirk, but mainly because he went 3-4 with his AllPro team I think. Some things are just better off left unsaid though...unless you're trying to stir sh#t up.

Defensive rookie: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Detroit. Ten sacks with the amount of focus and pressure that was on him? Amazing. Edged Devin McCourty. Though I have McCourty as one of my corners and Suh not on my D-line, Suh had a better year than McCourty.
NT: Kyle Williams, Buffalo. No other nose man is the combo pile-pusher and backfield invader that Williams is.

DT: Jonathan Babineaux, Atlanta. Love how he moves so powerfully through guard-tackle and guard-center holes. He's one of the long-overdue guys to get credit for the Falcons' defense.

King took the easy way out by making Suh his Defensive Rookie of the Year and ignoring the question of whether he deserved one of the top two spots. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it's not like he was definitive.

This guy looks too much like Brent Musberger to be taken seriously.
