Early synopsis for next year.

I still don't get how everyone thinks ST sucked so bad last year. The punt return team sucked last year. The punt team was average, and would have been better if Foltz would have been more consistant. He was good for one shank a game. KO and Kick return I would say were above average.

i agree. i thought it was funny that the article described 2014 as a defining year for bo. why were 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 not defining years for bo?
It's very easy as fans to find extenuating circumstances for why your team didn't play well. I was one of those people that said two years ago 2013 would be Bo's defining year. That said, there are some facts that Pelini couldn't fully control, specifically, the sheer amount of injuries we faced. Chief among them, of course, was a four year starting quarterback. Regardless of what people think about TM, there's still no way to convince me we had a better qb on our team than a 100% TM (if he had been). The youth on defense didn't help at all either, but part of that is due to recruiting, especially some big misses we've had over the last couple of years.

The thing that's been really difficult about Pelini is for every reason he gives folks to consider firing him, there's something out there to counter it. It's like we're on a tight rope, swaying one way or the other all the time.

I can think of way too many factors/possibilities for what will keep Pelini on for another year after 2014. I will say, however, if he doesn't have a conference title soon, it's time to part ways. I don't think you can justify being the head coach of Nebraska and not have a conference title after being here for seven, eight or nine years. While the nine win thing certainly is impressive, the head coach of Nebraska - in my opinion - needs to have serious hardware to go along with those wins. And I don't think that's an unreasonable expecation as a Husker fan.

Pretty much sums it up. Too many references of 'he or they will be the greatest since...". Jeebus. Give me a break. The things that stuck out to me were losing 5 starting seniors on the offensive line along with our two best cornerbacks. My preview; Just another Pelini coached team next year. At least they have a somewhat easy schedule again which should help them. I'm just looking to see what Johnny Stanton can do. Randy Gregory and AA are fun to watch. Otherwise next year will just be a replay of last year and the year before and...rinse, repeat.
Yep, exactly.

I have a feeling that at the end of next year, a still sizable portion of the fanbase will be saying, "Next year is going to be a real make-or-break for Bo." Countered by another sizable portion arguing that Bo needs at least another 2-3.

I think it's basically either that or a B1G championship. Although, to be fair, that was what was said about this year....

But will we get 9 wins?
Probably. And 4 losses. Bo's habit. 2008 - 4L, 2009 - 4L, 2010 - 4L, 2011 - 4L, 2012 - 4L, 2013 - 4L

MiamiFL - L

Michigan State @ East Lansing - L

Wisky @ Madison - L

Iowa @ Iowa City or post season bowl - L
As much as I hate to agree with this prediction, I do, however, what are the chances that these loses are in the 3-10 point range as opposed to the 20-30 point range that we have, sadly, become accustomed to a few times per season?
Predicting 4 losses is easy by now, but which 4 games is harder to predict. We won in Ann Arbor and Happy Valley this past season, but incredibly still found a way to lose 4 other games that most of us would not have guessed!

because he didn't git 'er done!

The 2 best teams we play next year will be Miami and Michigan State with Iowa a very close third. I can't see more then 3 losses. We lose to both Iowa and Michigan State no CC

If Nebraska can clean up the turnovers and improve the punt return team there is no team on its schedule that it can't beat. On a pure talent level, the only team that I think has superior talent may be Miami and I am not sure about that.

Will this happen? We will see.

I don't think there is a make or break year. If Bo doesn't have anymore hidden audio tapes laying around, continues to win above 70% & runs a clean program. There is not a lot you can do without looking foolish.

I don't get why folks think Stanton will start over Armstrong, when all they have seen of Stanton are his highlights.
I am by no means anit-TA. If he wins the job, I'll be all for him. But I'm not convinced about his passing. He has a strong arm but a slow delivery and not terribly accurate. We obviously haven't seen Stanton in game action but he was right at the top of the Elite 11 competition and there were several reports out of practice last year about his accuracy. My guess is he's a comparable runner to TA and his accuracy will get him the job. We'll see.

I convinced myself last year we would lose no more than 3 games. Iowa really hurt to attend. But here I am again thinking there is no way we lose 4 in 2014. I think we can beat Miami for sure. Out of MSU and Wiscy we lose one win one. Revenge against Minnysoda. Continuance of breaking purplecat hearts. Pummel the rest the OOC cans. Beat up Purdue pretty badly. Hell we should throttle Illinois too. Iowa wont see us coming, plus they always have bare cupboards by years end. I see at most two losses but if we tighten up 11-1.

This is the exact attitude that will prevent us from winning a championship. We were so abused during the Callahan years that we're just happy not to completely suck under Pelini. Content not to suck does not an elite program make.
