I can see that he might think the Hoosier gig might be a bad choice, but jumping ship to USC? Similar to being rescued at sea by the Titanic.

 
So, skipping the brief stop-over in Indiana, he has basically traded linebacker gigs from Neb to USC?

Is that even a lateral?

Seems like two programs headed in opposite directions and he choose the wrong train.....

 
From what I remember of the rumors at the time, Indiana was a courtesy landing spot for him. I don't think he had much of a say in regards to staying at Nebraska.

Yes, I believe it's fair to say the move was mutual (at least)

 
Odds are he is looking for a job next year also. I wouldn't bet on Kiffin being the USC head coach this time next year.
