Fort Lauderdale, FL -- Burglars looking for greenbacks in a stolen ATM might be seeing red, because there was little cash inside the machine they dragged out of a convenience store Friday, the shop owner said.

Thieves pried open the back door of Super Stop at 6063 NW 31st Ave., shortly before 4 a.m., unbolted the 5-foot, 150-pound machine from the ground and dragged it across the concrete floor, Jameel Hafeez said.

"There was nothing in there," the Lakeview Plaza storeowner of 10 years said. "That's going to make them mad."

The company that fills up the machine had not yet replenished the cash, Hafeez said. He could not immediately provide the company's name, but said the ATM had been in the store for five years.

Police were shaking their heads at the predawn theft.

"I haven't seen this before," spokeswoman Detective Kathy Collins said.

Of the almost 300 customers who shop in the store daily, more than 20 use the automatic teller machine.
