Eric Martin to DE

All-Conference
Ekeler mentioned this morning that Eric Martin is in the middle of moving to defensive end.

HuskerExtraBC HuskerExtraBC Ekeler said #Husker coaches in process of moving Eric Martin from linebacker to defensive end spot.

this is awesome. he'll be VERY fast off the snap and can contain well. this should help with those design QB runs we've been struggling against. i feel very sorry for the oposing QB that gets to meet him in the backfield. over/under - 1, number of games he plays at DE before a personal foul, roughing the passer penalty.

Interesting....very interesting (in my best Mr. Burns from the simpsons voice)
Very interesting. I could see him as a Demorrio Williams type speed rusher off the end. Something we are very much missing. Takes aways some of the assignments and "thinking" that is involved from the LB spot also. Which is something that has been talked about as lacking with Martin.

Great move.

I think the over/under should be in terms of quarters, rather than games. i would put the over/under on quarters at 2. I think he'd be similar to Terrell Farley as well.

I wonder how long it will take him to get on the field regularly. The defensive end has some very important responsibilities and he has to learn all of them before he can help this team.

Maybe we will see him before we think in obvious passing down situations. Not a lot of responsibility except for getting to the QB.

Sounds like this might have been in the process for a while. No better time to begin the transition then against KU.

I think DE is probably an easier position to learn than LB and Martin is certainly physical enough to succeed there. The one thing that bothers me is the interview I heard with him on 1620 where he said he was lazy over the summer and spent more time playing Madden than doing 7 on 7 drills or conditioning. I hope he's learned some kind of lesson this year.

I love this move, coaches getting creative is a good thing for our defense. Put some new faces, at new places and keep their offense guessing on whos coming off the edge/blitz.

I thought we were weak at LB, so this one really surprised me. So what is the depth at LB?
Martin really struggled at LB in several areas, he struggled with assignments and calls on the field. He also did not have the speed or hips to cover TE's or RB's which is a must for Bo's LB's.

DE is the right fit for him, but I don't know how much he will contribute this year.
