Every year it's someone else...

Is it just me or doesn't it seem like every year in the North there is one team that is going to be challenging the Huskers for the division title, and that team's fans are going insane with pre-season and pre-game hype? Then if that team happens to win, it explodes into a goal-post tearing fiasco. In the last two years when these teams have beaten a very mediocre Nebraska squad, you would have thought that it #1 vs. #2 for the NC. I always think back on the 2001 Oklahoma game, where it actually WAS #1vs#2 and we won in an awesome game. Nobody stormed the field, nobody made our fans look like jackasses. I think that is something that we can always be proud of.

Just ranting.

PS. This year it's Iowa State if you didn't catch my drift. I'm sure they'll be lubing the goalposts in Ames, no matter our record coming in. (Hopefully 5-0) dedhoarse

Yeah - but they need to be lubing something else in preparation for what we'll do to 'em...

Agreed. One doesn't need to look past Boulder to remind oneself of what we do not wish to represent. I hear the new coach's contract has a clause in it that he gets the 5 cent plastic bottle return deposit for each bottle thrown onto the field which could make him the highest paid coach in college footgall.

Ah, college footbal season is just around the corner and the smack is already flying!!

:box

i say let them talk. Every team has great expectations this time of year (remember everyone is undeated right now). This is what makes college football so great. The only difference between us and Iowas State is that we will have the same excitement all year long while they will be sitting at home wondering...... :WTH

The original thought on this thread is that someone comes out of no where and celebrates like crazy because then "upset" Nebr. Whereas, Husker fans are better behaved and don't act like fools.

I personnally believe the toughest game in the Big 12 North will not be ISU. It will be a surprise when it happens. The Big Red will be a little down (perhaps from a big win) and some team will play way over their heads. It will be a day when the ball bounces against us all day long. I suspect it will be either Missouri or CU, but it could be KU or KSU. We we be good enough to overcome it? I'll be either holding my breath all that day or drinking way to much!

Luckily out of the four games you named, three are at home. The road game out of the mentioned above against KSUcks won't be tough, IMO, because with the way everything is going right now, Princess is going to have to take members of the student section to put them on the field.

Husker fans are better behaved, becuase we dont see any win as an upset. We all believe that our team is not an underdog! In other words we dont storm the field and tear down goal posts, because we dont feel as though we made a huge upset if we win against a quality opponent. We have a tradition of winning, and its nothing new to all of us in Husker Nation!!!

Yeah I agree with Bleedin Red, although I wouldn't call it exactly "well behaved." Not storming the field is not indicative of being well behaved, necessarily. It's just, when Kansas snaps a 68-year losing streak or however long it was and throttles us, they go crazy with school pride and Jayhawk euphoria. Let them have their fun, it doesn't happen very often. Whereas, we are never quite so satisfied to win any particular game, because we come in with expectations to win in the first place.

I suspect if we went 0-12 for five or six seasons, then welcomed USC to our home turf and laid a 42-0 lambasting on them, you'd see Husker fans storming the field too.

Remember the Orange Bowl days? I recall when Jarvis Redwine busted a big run against OU ran into the endzone looking back and an OU player flashing the "we're number one signal". The field was covered in oranges from the fans. If I recall correctly OU came back and beat us.........again. KU had reason to celebrate and to be honest I was pretty happy for them. It had been a huge drought. Doesn't mean I liked the loss for us but I can understand their excitement.
