Former Huskers enjoyed great successes in the National Football League during week two, led by strong performances from many former Blackshirts.

Free safety Mike Brown helped Chicago to its first win of the season, returning his second-quarter interception 41 yards for a touchdown. Brown also collected four tackles as the Bears defeated the Lions, 38-6.

In Arizona, St. Louis cornerback DeJuan Groce recorded a second-quarter interception off of the Cardinal's Kurt Warner as the Rams picked up the 17-12 victory.

Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch turned in a monster performance for Tennessee, recording three sacks and recovering one fumble in his second game for the Titans. Vanden Bosch recorded four tackles as Tennessee defeated Baltimore, 25-10.

Former Huskers Mike Minter and Mike Rucker again turned in strong performances for Carolina, as the Panthers defeated two-time defending Super Bowl champion New England, 27-17. Rucker recorded one sack, two tackles and forced a fumble from his defensive end position, while Minter, in his ninth season with the Panthers, recorded a tackle from his strong safety spot.

Defensive end Chris Kelsay, in his third year in the NFL, had five tackles for Buffalo, while rookie linebacker Barrett Ruud recorded the first two tackles of his NFL career for defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin's Buccaneers, as Tampa Bay defeated Buffalo, 19-3.

In Seattle, place kicker Josh Brown connected on all three of his extra points in helping the Seahawks collect their first win of the season with a three-point win over the Atlanta, 21-18. In the same game, linebacker Demorrio Williams led the Falcons defense, amassing 12 tackles, 10 of which were unassisted, while defensive end Grant Wistrom recorded three tackles for the Seahawks.

On Monday night, Dallas linebacker Scott Shanle, brother of current Husker safety Andrew Shanle, recorded the first sack of his NFL career, pitching in three tackles as the Cowboys fell one point short of the Redskins, losing 14-13.

Rookie cornerback Fabian Washington, Oakland's first-round pick, recorded two tackles for the Raiders, who dropped their Sunday night match-up with the Chiefs, 23-17. Offensive guard Will Shields continued his 193 game consecutive-start streak for the Chiefs, helping lead a Kansas City attack that amassed 354 total yards.

Running back Ahman Green had 16 carries for Green Bay, picking up 54 yards on the ground while making five catches for 45 yards as the Packers fell just short of the Browns, 26-24.

Punter Kyle Larson helped his Bengals to a 2-0 record with a 37-8 win over the Vikings. Larson punted three times for a 41.7 yard average, with one inside the 20-yard line and a long of 55 yards. Houston place kicker Kris Brown connected on his lone extra point attempt as the Texans fell to the Steelers, 27-7.

Overall, a total 31 former Huskers are on NFL rosters, including two players on injured reserve and two players on NFL practice squads. A total of 27 former Huskers started the 2005 NFL season on active rosters.

Probably the only reason I really watch NFL games is to see how the boys do later on in their carreer.
I don't like the NFL much these days.........

That's the only reason i've ever watched the NFL. For me, even Super Bowls seem pointless to watch if there are no Huskers to look for.

Sorry to nitpick, but I just realized something. Josh Brown, Kyle Larson and Ahman Green aren't ex-blackshirts.
sorry to nit nit pik but the Huskers.com article wasn't just covering former Blackshirts. It was covering the performances of Huskers in the NFL, which would obviously include Green, Brown, and Larson.

Brings up an interesting observation though on offensive and defensive NFL Huskers.

the non-Blackshirts don't really have much shot at the NFL-Husker spotlight, except for Green of course- and he hasn't had a 100+ yard game in a while.

There are way more Blackshirts in the NFL than offensive players.

Last count of NFLers: 21 on defense, 11 offense, and 3 special teamers.

of those 11 on offense, all but 4 are offensive linemen (2 RBs, 1 FB, 1 TE). Of those 4, only Green played in Week 2 (Schlesinger/Bucky=injured; Golliday=practice squad).

Of the 7 offensive linemen: 4 are starters, 2 others were starters last season (Hochstein and Treu). and the 1 left being the still unsigned R.Incognito.

echos of the NFL unfriendly Option system. nonetheless I still have a soft spot for it. :wasted
