Backups: Junior Boaz Joseph, senior Charles Jackson and redshirt freshman Eric Lee were the guys in the spring.

Newcomers to watch: Freshmen Lamar Jackson and Tony Butler. Neither were mentioned this week by Riley — but they certainly look the part. Jackson's listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. Butler's 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Riley did name Jackson back in June as one of the first-year guys who stood out immediately.

How is Charles Jackson still in Lincoln? I feel like he was a Callahan recruit he's been around so long.

There we go. Thought Butler was a Safety.

Wasn't sure where Domann would start out. I thought the theory was take Safeties and turn the into Linebackers, especially since he is a tweener anyway. But apparently not in this case.

Aaron Williams is the No. 1 guy at nickel corner, too. Williams said he splits his time "50/50" between the two positions. Banker said No. 1 Joshua Kalu "desperately" wants to play nickel, too, but Banker said he'd have to find a No. 3 corner he was confident enough with to make the decision. Lamar Jackson is getting a look at nickel corner, too, according to Brian Stewart.

I'll trust the coaches to make the decision with Kalu splitting time at nickel, but ideally it would be nice just to establish two solid DBs on the outside. On a side note, I'd love to see Charles Jackson have a strong fall camp and win the nickel spot. He's been through a lot and it would be a nice way to go out. That said, play the best man. GBR

Chris Jones has been Nebraska’s best cornerback. He’s been aggressive, active with his hands and confident. He’s been better on the deep passes than Joshua Kalu.

But Kalu has been decent, too. I think Kalu can be a good tackler when the mood strikes him. Jones needs more work there. Kalu also has ball skills; he’s good at making things happen.
The No. 3 cornerback is redshirt freshman Eric Lee. He’s physical and competitive for a shorter, stockier guy. If Lee is good enough by the time the season rolls around, Kalu could play nickel. If not, Kalu stays outside and Aaron Williams plays nickel. Among the young corners, Lamar Jackson, DiCaprio Bootle and Marquel Dismuke didn’t do anything to stand out too much in the scrimmage. But, hey, it’s one scrimmage. Dismuke is the most physical of the three; Jackson is fluid when he changes direction.
