I'm having trouble finding the link again, but I did see a report that the cause might be a fire at the plant, and firefighters using water on ammonium nitrate.

Fertilizer plants are ticking time bombs that many chemicals in one place is always dangerous. I am pretty surprised that they allowed homes to be built close enough to be destroyed in an accident. Still a terrible tragedy, one of the worst in a long long time with these death reports.

That explosion's crazy... Hope folks are ok...

Only thing I've ever seen that was when we were training to go to Bosnia, they detonated an anti-tank mine under a "gamma goat", and blew that thing to bits. I felt the explosion and we were over half a mile away...

ABC reporting on NightLine that 75-100 buildings have been destroyed. I think the injury count is going to go up.

Reported that the plant had over 50,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia on hand. For comparison, the bombing in Oklahoma City 20 years ago was about 4800 pounds.
