Used to be, when Nebraska basketball scored 70 points at home, everyone in attendance could cash their ticket in for a free Runza.
No more.
Nebraska made a change for this season, which tips off Tuesday night. Now, fans can gain a free Runza (or burger) only if the crowd noise reaches a certain decibel level.
A decibel bar will pop up on the Pinnacle Bank Arena video board at various points throughout the game. The bar won't be there the entire game, just at certain points, and the goal noise will change as the season goes along. If it hits a certain level, everyone goes home with a ticket for free food.
"We’ve actually had it at football and volleyball for the past two seasons, this will be the first time a prize is involved," said Chris Pankonin, the game presentation coordinator for Nebraska sports. "It’s a legitimate decibel meter placed in lower bowl."
Fans will get their first shot at free bread pockets filled with beef and cabbage Tuesday night when NU tips off against Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m.
