Fresno just picked up a ringer QB

So they will score 20 points max instead of 10. They still wont be able to keep us from hanging 40 or more on them.

BRASKA!!!! (koolaids sweet this morning)

It's hard to compare Fresno now vs. Russell Wilson's Wisconsin team. I glanced at the preseason depth chart for the Bulldogs. Looks like they are going to be replacing their left tackle and their center as well as a WR and a tight end.

I am guessing that Fresno State rising up with a new QB is a bit more unlikely than Wisky's rise since the Badgers returned a pretty developed line, plus Ball and a couple of really good receivers. In addition, they ran more than they passed. And that always helps new QBs get acclimated.

I went to two Fresno State games last year. I was not impressed to say the least. I really do not think it will be a competitive game. This is a team we should steam roll. No depth, their passing attack last year, looked sand lot even with Carr.

I have been a fan of Fresno State for a long time, go to their games, and really like their old coach. Just not the same anymore.

I made this mistake with Russell Wilson, claiming he wouldn't amount to much at Wiscy because he made hay playing against weak ACC teams. I was pretty clear Wilson wouldn't make much of an impact.

It's been three years since I said that. In the intervening time Wilson trounced Nebraska, won the Big Ten Championship Game, got drafted, won two different NFL Rookie MVP awards, and won a Super Bowl.

I'll just sit over here in the corner and shut up about what Connette is or isn't going to do at Fresno. :D

Transfers like this rarely become huge stars, or at least rarely make an immediate impact. Russel Wilson turned out to be an anomoly among transfer QBs and became a superstar, I don't think we can expect the same sort of splash from Connette (or anyone else, really. Wilson was just special).

Fresno State may turn out to be a tough game: they are well coached, it is on the road at night, etc. But I wouldn't expect this QB to suddenly rip us to shreds (unless the season starts out for us the way last year did!)

Edit: Knapp eat me to it. I said the same thing about Russel Wilson as well and was dead wrong. Double or nothing this time around?

I have no idea on the new guy, but replacing Carr at Fresno, is different. I really do not think they would do any better with Carr on the team this fall. Not saying the could not win, but if they can beat Nebraska with either starting, we have fallen a lot farther than any of us thought/think.

I was on the Wilson bandwagon. My question was could he learn the offense quick enough. DUH!!!!

If Fresno State had Wisconsin's offensive line and RB stable, I'd be a little more worried.

Wilson was a final piece to the Wisconsin puzzle that I am still amazed didn't do better(I was thinking MNC run).

This guy is a big pickup who will be required to pull the team with him. There is a big difference.

This does make this game even more interesting with scheduled time, expectations, and unknowns in an early season.

They didn't have any of that in 2011, either. They did have a QB with plenty of moxie and just enough mobility, though.

I'm hoping the 2014 D Line is an impressive re-emergence of the once-mighty Blackshirts, but until proven otherwise, I'll remain skeptical.
