Howdy,
Thanks for all the kind replies.
I'm a poster on TexAgs so I try to make it over here whenever I get a moment.
After all, TexAgs is a
Virtual Tradition!!!
Personally, I was concerned when we hired Mike Sherman. Looch had told us he would be the coach well before it happened.
I feel much more comfortable after doing some research and hearing him talk upon receiving the job. You should watch the presser at
Aggie Athletics if you get a chance.
If you travel to TexAgs you will see some posters that are not as excited as others. What I've noticed is that the people that really know what they are talking about (former players, coaches, current players, professionals, etc) think this is a FANTASTIC hire. It seems that the only people that disagree with the hire are those that don't have a professional opinion.
We are going to be getting the VERY best assistants that money can buy (Sherman is being paid less than Franchione was to ensure we have the funds + Sherman did not have a buyout). I'd rather not give names because as of now most are simply speculation. We could possibly start seeing hires this Thursday.
The thing that I am most excited about is Sherman knows what Texas A&M is all about. He has coached here twice (O-line 89-93, 95-96). He guided us to three conference championships during his tenure. He's coming back home.
I think he will also have great recruiting ability. Maybe Favre will make a guest appearance? I'm not sure if it's within the rules...but he may be able to bring recruits to Reliant Stadium (in the mean time while he finishes his obligations). He was the Head Coach and GM at Green Bay and is the second winningest coach at Green Bay (2nd only to a man named Lombardi). These are things that can and will persuade recruits and on top of that he has the ability to share with recruits what it truly means to be an Aggie beyond the field.
To be honest, I've never been to a Nebraska Football game. Sad I know. I have family near Lincoln and hope to make it someday. I love Nebraska football for the fans...I've never, NOT ONCE, heard anything but great things. I've also heard the gameday experience is on par with gameday at Kyle Field...and that's something special. You know it's gotta be good if my fellow Ags mention it in the same sentence as Kyle Field. I look forward to the day I get to go to a game. I will be out of school the next time my Aggies play the Huskers and that may be the time I make the drive.
I've heard you will find out today (Wednesday) the identity of the new Head Coach. I anxiously await the announcement.
If you get a chance, head over to TexAgs and interact with the Aggies...you will enjoy it.
Heres to your new coach (whoever it may be) and best wishes.
God bless,
Jason Barber
