To be competitive with Missouri we are going to have to score a lot of points. If VT can score as much as they did, and get the yards against us that they did (which was the most they have had all season against anyone - their offense has be vacant to this point), the someone like Chase Daniel, or even Colt McCoy is going to carve them up like a Thanksgiving turkey, unless we come up with some sort of an "A" game, which is doubtful since there is so much inconsistency on all sides of the ball.I think you are way too pessimistic to think we are not going to be competitive against Missouri and Texas Tech. Granted, they will be difficult games to win, but I expect the Huskers to be within 14 points of the opponents. I think you are thinking of last years team more than this years team effort.
I do think it is a good idea to get in Witt or Lee if time permits, but only if the game is either way out of reach either way...winning or losing by over 21 in the 4th quarter. Otherwise, I keep Ganz in and keep woking on plays.
It might be good to start looking towards the future, something that BC sure didn't know about.
What do we do, let Ganz play all the downs on a team that we already know isn't going to be consistent enough to win even the Big 12, and sit next year with a brand new QB that isn't tested? We might get away with that and be competitive next year, but odds are that we won't. It is too hard for a new QB to come in and win right away.
VT was the first decent defense that we really have played, Ganz looked pretty unsettled and was throwing on the run the entire first half, since the protection wasn't there. I do give VT credit, they played a heck of a game against us. I never thought their offense would get going the way they have played this year. Their defense played well as well, but we faced some good defenses last year, and scored against them, and I thought we were far enough on offense that we would play well against them, which we didn't for much of the game.
We have a long ways to go before we are going to be competitive against top teams. Why not bring the younger kids in and give them some experience, if not as starters, then still bring them in and split time with the seniors who won't be here to retool next year? BC brought in Keller for one year, and if he wouldn't have gotten hurt, we would have had a QB position with very little experience this year to deal with on top of all the other problems there are.
