Game Observations

From rojo:

Yesterday I talked to a Husker fan who had been at the Colorado game.

He’s a serious fan living here in Colorado who frequently goes to Husker games. He's gone to our bowl games for years.

What most impressed him:

After the game his family---and parents and coaches’ wives and other fans---waited outside the stadium as the team trickled out to the buses.

His comment was on the gentlemanly manners of the players. Smartly dressed in their warm-up suits, they came up to people and greeted them and spoke easily.

He was standing next to Mrs. Cosgrove and saw a number of players come up and give her a “Hi, Mrs. Cosgrove” and a hug.

It was all “Mr.” and “Mrs.” as they spoke to parents and coaches’ wives. They apparently carried themselves and presented themselves in ways that would make any Husker fan (or coach) proud. He was.

Other things:

1) By the middle of the fourth quarter all of the stadium's club seating was empty. And lights had come on in the skyboxes---with most of them empty too.

2) What wasn’t shown on TV: After the two sections of students had been cleared out, CU students in the south end zone started throwing things out on the field. During a TV time-out, all the officials met at mid-field. His thought: they were considering just calling off the game...

3) On our O-Line’s play: Best of the year. He was especially impressed with Kurt Mann---and with one play in particular where Mann blocked his man then slid off to hit a blitzing Linebacker---leaving the guy slow to get up.

4) After the game---after players went in front of the band to sing the fight song---no one wanted to leave. Players lingered on the field, enjoying it all. Jared Helming [that game was his first start---subbing for Austin] went up into the stands to get to his folks and but was surrounded by celebrating fans by about 10 rows up.

.

Those were just some impressions from a knowledgeable fan who has played the game and raised some strapping sons of his own.

I thought that his words might be worth passing along.

GBR!

Thanks for the story. Nice to hear about the good things that the NU players do and the way they interact with others.
