It got him thinking about his dad and mom, Brian and Kelli Gerry. His mom works three jobs. His dad always has his head down working, too.
Yeah, he was gifted with some great athletic genes. "Don't get me wrong: My mom was a baller. My dad was a baller."
But it was the work ethic they ingrained in him that he thinks allowed him to have the success he's had.
Mom was from a small-town family, the youngest of nine, where it was always about driving hard for what you earn.
"Just put your head down and go to work is kind of the motto that they put in our family," Gerry said.
