I will break it down further....
Quarterbacks A-
Zac was great under pressure, as we already knew he was, and only made one bad decision, and it didnt end up as a pick. The interception was thrown to a wide open Todd, but the DE reached up and knocked it into the air, so that play lacked on execution more so than decision making. Missed a couple of throws, but only dropped passes kept him from having a unreal stat day.
Runningbacks A
All impressed, only thing that kept them from getting an A+ were the two fumbles. Absolutely brilliant play other than that. Great vision, good blocking, and most importantly, they got all the tough yards and were very consistant in picking up that 4-7 yard run that you want in an established ground game.
Wide receivers C
Decent route running, but too many dropped passes. Purify looked electric when he got on the field, and I cant wait to see more of him. Swift and Nunn were ok today. Hardy was ok. Just a meh performance as a whole.
O-line A+
No sacks and over 200 yards rushing.... nothing more to say.
D-line C+
Where was the pressure after the first couple of series??? To many rushing yards given up as far as rushing average, and certainly not enough pressure on the quarterback. Carriker played very well as usual, but I was disappointed with our interior lineman. I thought that they would play better than that.
Linebackers B
Werent quick enough to the outside on the toss sweep, but played well other than that. No missed tackles, and were very good in coverage. Didnt make a whole lot of big plays, but Ruud's pick coupled with an overall solid effort gets them the B
Secondary B
Honestly did not play that poorly. Got beat by a very talented wide out a couple of times, but that is going to happen when you have no safety help and are still not able to get pressure on the quarterback. Would have like to see them play more aggresively on the outs, but I think we are holding back a bit schematically to hide some things we are going to try against USC. Safeties were solid in their tackling, and covered the TE's well. Solid day over all.
Special Teams B
Dropped punt return and mediocre kick off coverage keep them from getting a higher score.
Coaching A+
Saw a very conservative gameplan that worked very well without giving too much away. Look for us to open the playbook against USC. Runningback rotation worked brilliantly.
