greatest Heisman-possible players to never win it

Fox Sports

Assuming Peterson is off to the land of mercenaries, he’ll rank among the greatest college players who never won the Heisman. Keeping this in the land of the real, and taking out offensive linemen, defensive players, and others who’d have a better chance of getting me to watch the NLCS than they would of winning the Heisman, the 10 greatest Heisman-possible players to never win it (based on the college careers they had and not talent) since 1936 were:

1. Tommie Frazier, QB Nebraska,

2. Jim Brown, RB Syracuse,

3. Vince Young, QB Texas,

4. Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma,

5. Archie Manning, QB Ole Miss,

6. Peyton Manning, QB Tennessee,

7. Anthony Carter, WR Michigan,

8. Rocket Ismail, WR Notre Dame,

9. Leroy Keyes, RB Purdue,

10. Jim McMahon, QB BYU, (wanted to add one more)

11. Larry Fitzgerald, WR Pitt

Frazier gettin a little love. Good to see

But Young only had one outstanding year, and I would put Peterson's freshman year ahead of Young's Junior year. Plus, the games that Peterson played in during his sophomore and junior year, he truely dominated the game moreso than Young during his freshman and sophomore game.

I'm too young to remember Jim Brown's college days so I really can't comment on him compared to AP.

I agree with that, Tommie should have won and don't know why he didn't. It is nice to see he is ranked #1 on the list.

Tommie has the hardware that matters. 2 national titles, 3 national title game MVP's. The Heisman would have been nice, because he deserved it. I will say this, he was as deserving if not moreso than Crouch.

I would say one of the reasons Tommie didn't win it is because Heisman voters are swayed a bit by not only if they are a great college player, but their future prospects. They are somewhat reluctant to give it to a guy that they know is done after his college career. Eddie George was a great NFL prospect and won it over Tommie, who was done after his senior year.

Having said that, I started by saying I WOULD say that....however Crouch winning it blows that theory right out of the water. So my guess is that they thought Eddie was prettier than Tommie.

I remember there being written about a large discussion among Heisman voters after the Feista Bowl that they had voted for the wrong player. Frazier was the better player and got robbed.

Thats why I think they should wait until after the bowl games to hand out these rewards. Might as well see what they do in a big game against a team that is pretty evenly matched for the most part.

Based on talent alone though, I'd rate Marcus DuPree as #1. Barry even dumped the wishbone and ran the "I" because of him. The run against Mizzou when he steamrolled over a linebacker and then outrunning the fastest corner they had for 70 yard TD. Man that dude was a freak!

Well, I've seen various places like ESPN and CFN rate Tommie as the greatest Qb of all-time, so it should be a no-brainer he's the best never to win it.

At least he got his rings
