Greatest Moment in Husker Football History - The Final Vote

Huskers.com is running a series of Twitter votes to determine the greatest moment in Husker football history.

You can vote on Twitter if you like.  But what does HuskerBoard say? 
 

We came up with the same final two as the online voting did.  So here you go.

No. 1: 1995 Orange: Nebraska 24, Miami 17
“And bring that trophy back to Lincoln!” The Huskers rallied with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, both on fullback traps, to defeat the pain-in-the-you-know-what Hurricanes on their home turf and deliver coach Tom Osborne his first national championship.

No. 1: Winning the Game of the Century
If you can recite Lyell Bremser’s call of Johnny Rodgers’ punt return on Thanksgiving Day in 1971, you might be a Husker fan. Even if you can’t, you’ve surely seen it, which qualifies you all the same. The day’s first touchdown sparked Nebraska’s 35-31 victory over No. 2 Oklahoma in a game for the ages.

This was really a hard choice.  Winning the game of the century allowed us to have bragging rights over OU forever in that big game and allowed us to compete for Back to Back NC but I think the 95 Orange Bowl victory was bigger.  In 1971 we had already won the NC. We had a reputation of winners.  Pre- 95 our reputation: Can't win the big one.  In 95 we were still trying to get there wt so, so many close calls. 95 got the big monkey off our back against an arch rival - who had inflicted the most painful of memories in 83 and who had beaten us badly in the Orange Bowl a few years before.  The 95 OB showed that we were no longer bridesmaids - runner-upers, good but not good enough.  95 was the beginning of a dynasty that may have continued into the early 2000s if Tom had not retired.  It was also the game, after which,  a grown man could cry tears of joy and not be embarrassed.  (Yes, I know you did too!)
