Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe said Wednesday on his weekly call-in show that he expects to be back coaching the Demon Deacons in 2008.
"I’m planning on it," Grobe said.
He did say, however, that he did talk to other institutions about their vacancies. It is strongly believed and has been reported that one of those schools was Nebraska.
As written in the Winston-Salem Journal:
Sources close to the Wake program indicated Grobe will not be leaving for Nebraska ... The Sporting News reported on its Web site on Monday that Nebraska emissaries had spoken with Grobe in or near Atlanta. Asked if he had been in Georgia in the past week, the 55-year-old coach smiled and said, “It’s possible.” At 5 p.m. Monday, he appeared at a meeting of the Wake team and said he told his players he’ll inform them if and when anything with anybody gets serious. As of Wednesday night, that apparently hadn’t happened yet.
“I hate to respond anymore because whenever you’re doing good things on the field – and that’s a tribute to our coaches and players – I get contacted by a lot of people,” Grobe told the Journal. “It has been happening now for seven years.
"You never know what the future holds, but I think everybody knows how happy I am at Wake Forest. That doesn’t mean things don’t happen in coaching, but I can’t ask more from (athletics director) Ron Wellman. The fans could not be better to us. We couldn’t have a better group of players. This is a wonderful place to be.”
