Winona, MN -- A Minneapolis man arrested 16 years ago by an officer who has since died turned himself in on a warrant for a drunken driving charge.
On Tuesday, Patrick Sebastian Murray, 38, told Judge Jeff Thompson in Winona County District Court that the overdue warrant had "been troubling me for awhile."
Murray posted bail and was ordered to appear in court again on Nov. 6.
On July 14, 1990, Winona Police Sgt. Tom Nyseth was on patrol when he saw a Datsun in the ditch at 4:30 p.m. The car had slid down a 20-foot grade, and no one was around, according to his report.
A jeep arrived on the scene carrying Murray. Nyseth determined that he was the driver and smelled alcohol on his breath. A test put his blood-alcohol level at 0.16 percent.
Murray did not appear in court July 30, 1990, as scheduled, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Nyseth retired from the police force in 2000 and died in 2003.
