Omaha -- A seventh-grader has been suspended for bringing to school an 11-inch wooden knife, which he said he carved as a Boy Scouts activity.
Morton Middle School principal Matt Brandl says the unnamed student served the first of his five-day suspension yesterday.
He says the student told him he put the knife in his pants pocket on Tuesday night and did not realize it was there when he went to school the following day.
Brandl says a teacher spotted the knife at Benson High School, where the student went with others to see a rendition of "A Christmas Carol."
He said it would have been difficult for the student not to realize the knife was in his pocket. The knife had a five-and-a-half-inch blade that came to a point.
The student faces possible expulsion.
