Nebraska running back Roy Helu was one of 45 running backs put on the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, annually given to the nation's top running back.
Helu averaged 6.4 yards per carry last year and gained 803 yards. He scored seven touchdowns in part-time duty, as well.
Six other running backs from the Big 12 were named to the list. Since its inception in 1990, no Nebraska ball-carrier has ever won the Doak Walker Award. NU's last finalist for the award was Ahman Green in 1997.
