His Guys

I really hate the argument that goes "wait until he's had time to recruit his own guys for his system". We're talking about football players. We're not talking about architects being retrained to be concert pianists, or ballet dancers retrained to be mechanics. You need big fast guys that know how to transfer their weight to generate power and momentum. We have a lot of those guys on the team now.

But, in case you do believe that Riley will be much improved once he gets "His Guys", have you looked at the recruiting class? They are ranked #40 on Rivals and there are only about 4-5 spots left. And the offer list to fill the remaining spots is populated by 2* and 3* players, with a small handful of mostly disinterested 4* players.

Looks like he's bringing in Beaver-style recruits. I guess those are "His Recruits".

The saddest part is that the recruiting budget probably tripled when Riley was hired. More money down the drain.

I feel in certain positions this can be true...QB probably the most obvious....we saw that with BC when he came in after having only option QBs in the program.

I agree with huKSer about his OC and DC...

And the biggest argument going for Riley was what he could be capable of doing with the type of recruits he could get at Nebraska and Nebraska resources. And here he is going after the same players he could get at Oregon State.

At the current moment, Oregon State's new head coach is going after 4-5 star recruits. Something unheard of with Riley. I never heard in the paper Riley going for 4-5 star recruits while he was at OSU. Andersen seems to have one on campus on a weekly basis. Not saying they are going to commit to the Beavers, but at least the Beavers new head coach is trying, something Riley didn't do.

And give him time? I've already exhausted this. He's currently 62.

I go back and forth on this topic. I get what the OP means, the coach should win with the current players. But even coaches that enjoy instant success at a new job have gone on to struggle. Chizik didn't lasting after winning a title is one example.
