Hold on a dang minute

We are in the meat of the off week. And we are stil hashing over the loss. And what happend at Michigan State.

Le's just float possibilities here. Because at this point, all of them are pretty darn valid.

Could it be the case that this line simply isn't as good as we thought?

Could it be that the line got its first real test.... and wasn't ready, mainly due to meak out of conference opposition?

There is the possibility that the Michigan State offesne isn't that good and it made our defense look good. Can we totally rule this out?

Nebraska could run the table from here, make it to Indy and lose big again to Sparty. Or maybe Sparty won't even be there. Maybe it will be Ohio State. Maybe even someone else. Penn State sneaking in as chaos insues.

In the West, Nebraska looks to be the favorite, But can anyone rule out NW, Wisky, Minnesota, and Iowa.

So many variables are unkown. And Coach Pelini is right. THERE IS A LOT OF FOOTBALL to be played.

We get some more information about our team this Saturday, albeit by proxy as we watch Mich State but also Minnesota and Northwestern. Iowa gets back going as well.

If Nebraska is going to be in the title game it's going to be a slow thing. Week by week. See what happens.

I am not throwing dirt on this team or its aspirations at this point, even when including the first three quarters at Mich State and throwing out the comeback effort.

It's going to be a fun wide open race in the Big 10.

I am looking forward to it. Maybe we win. Maybe we crash and burn. Maybe it's 9-4 again. But show me someone who is certain what the future holds, and, in three months, I will probably be able to show you a presumptuous fool.

Have fun all. And GBR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You took the "break up your rant into paragraphs" thing to a whole new level.

I really have a feeling this isn't a 9-4 kind of year. Don't ask me why... just feels like a different group this year.

You're right when you say that it's going to be week to week. The thing I like about the rest of this schedule is that there is no one team that stands out above the rest. I think a lot of us placed Wisconsin a notch above the rest of our remaining schedule, but looking at their QBs, Stave looked shellshocked Saturday and McEvoy just flat out can't throw. Camp Randall is still tough, but so is winning without a QB.

I don't think we'd crash and burn against Sparty again. I think at a neutral field (which we could fill up) we'd come out a lot more prepared.

As much as we dump on Beck, he's had a great gameplan for MSU every time we've played them minus Saturday and I think he'd realize that plan was flawed and try some different things. Also, I guarantee the OL would be ready to go for that rematch and hopefully we'll be a lot healthier by then. I like our chances, still.

Agree with the Beck stuff. Bo said it best on Saturday in that it doesn't matter what your plan is when the blocking is bad up front. And Beck has delivered some good plans in the past. I think when you mix it up and it works, you're smart. Mix it up and it doesn't work, you're too cute. Play your cards close to the vest and it works... old school. Do the same thing and lose, too conservative.

Yes, I'd say this is true. Look how many starters we replaced this year. I don't think our OOC sched was overly weak. We played a couple of patsies, and a decent warm up game against Miami. Anyway, I don't think the calibre of the first four games we played hurt our offensive line. It just didn't expose them.

Sparty has a decent offense this year. I think the Blackshirts played a good game. In particular, we played stout defense in the second half. Too bad we gave up those long plays in the first half. That wasn't very good defense on our part.

For the record, I am guilty of the multiple single lines as well.

I have an excuse, though. I deal with several companies in Asia and my contacts sometimes understand very little English so I have to break it up.

I now do this with almost all of my typing

I am sorry if it bothers some of you.

But deal with it

The Husker defense played very well aside from 3 plays.

Good stuff NUance. I think that review of the O-line play is a good one. And it also means were going to get better as the weeks go on. There is talent there as I think we have recruited fairly well in that area. And I agree on the defense too. Mich State had some good plays mainly due to a few key breakdowns. But Cook's numbers and our overall defense indicates we were proficient.

The positive thing to pull away from the first five games is that we dominated Miami for most of the game in the trenches, and they're the most athletic defense we've faced. Not the best, but probably the most athletic.

I think the OL definitely needs the time to heal up. I believe Sterup was with a bum knee Saturday and it probably contributed a lot to his performance. I think the backups need to soak up a lot of reps over the bye and next week so we don't have to play 5 like we did all night Saturday. We need some of those guys to step up or I'll agree this OL is in trouble.

If I had to guess, I'd say the offensive line is closer to what we saw through 5 games than what we saw Saturday.

It is wide open, and Nebraska probably has more talent top-to-bottom than anyone else on our schedule.

So we should be favored to win the West.

I worry that about half the time, the teams we play are more prepared than us.

We've seen it for 6 1/2 years with no indication it's going to change any time soon.

So we could easily drop a couple more games.

Even though we shouldn't with this laughable schedule.

The end.

This sounds a lot like wishful thinking, my man.

I'm not saying they'd perform better. I'm just saying you can damn well believe they'd know going in they better say their prayers and take their vitamins leading up to that game.

You would hope, but our OL was definitley overhyped this offseason. Those guys have to prove it to me until I buy back in to their ability, which might take until the end of the season because of our schedule.
