Huskers Set to Resume Series with Washington

Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson will announce to the media later this afternoon that the Huskers have reached an agreement for a home-and-home football series with the University of Washington . The games will take place in the 2010 and 2011 seasons and mark the fourth high-profile opponent Nebraska has announced in the past three months.

The series will begin in Seattle at Husky Stadium on Sept. 18, 2010. The Huskies will make the trip to Lincoln and Memorial Stadium on Sept. 17, 2011. The games with Washington are the first contests scheduled for Nebraska in 2010 and 2011.

The announcement of a home-and-home series with Washington comes after recent announcements of home-and-home series with Virginia Tech, UCLA and Tennessee . The Huskers will play Virginia Tech in 2008 and 2009, take on UCLA in 2012 and 2013 and square off with the Volunteers in 2016 and 2017.

The Huskers' games with Washington will be the eighth and ninth meetings between the two schools, including four in the 1990s. Washington won in Lincoln in 1991 en route to a national championship and was victorious in Seattle in 1992. In 1997, Nebraska used a 27-14 victory at No. 2 Washington as a springboard to its fifth national championship, then defeated the Huskies in Lincoln in 1998. The first two meetings in the series occurred in 1925 and 1926 with the teams tying in 1925 and Washington winning in 1926. The Huskers also won at Washington in 1967.

Hopefully Ty Willingham will have them as a better team in 2010. It might have been high profile a few years ago, but it isn't really now. I hope they are good though.

it's hard to say with college football, they may or may not be back to being a decent team. Aren't they a decent team now though, i mean i know the record don't indicate it, but didn't their losses come in low point differentials (USC not withstanding), or am i thinking of Washington State?

I knew it was one or the other, but i wasn't sure which it was since i don't follow washington at all.

Wash St had some blowouts but seemed competitive in their games. Washington sucked. They had several blowouts. Even to teams that aren't so good.

In four years, they could be a decent team. Plus we always seem to be going after a couple of recruits from the Oregon/Washington area and maybe this will help our chances in getting them to commit to being a Husker.

It wil be great for recruting. Any games on the west coast will. I just hope they try to schedule with some SEC or ACC teams, so they can be in FL.

My first Husker game was in 1991 when Washington beat us. I was 9 years old. Washington is also my second fav. college football team. I am for sure going to Seattle for this one.

I was also at the Washington game in 91. Would of been around 9 myself. I remember crying the whole way home after the game.
