As NU secondary coach Phil Elmassian said: “The best defense is sitting on the bench. What we’re hoping is our offense can take the ball and keep us off the field for about 60 minutes.”

WTH?

 
I guess I see why you don't like this quote, but it is true. The best defense is not having to be on the field. I think he was referencing how we tired being on the field for 40 some mins last week. I don't think he was trying to call our secondary incompetant. Could it have been said better, yeah, but i think we are being a little critical of everything our coaches and players are saying as of late.

Lets just win today.

 
Yeah, that's really something he shouldn't say to the media, even though it's true. Your best defense is always having your offense dominate and make big drives. Given the current situation, though, it was a poor choice of words.

 
You guys are aware that this was Osborne's philosophy as well? Or anyone with a ball control offense? Of course the best defense is not letting the opponent have the ball.

 
They need to twist the heads off of kittens , head butt small children and punch holes in drywall. It always seems to work for me.

 
Yeah that was a weird comment, but I can see what he is saying. At this point given the problems with our defense I can see how our people are going to read into it as well though. <_<

 
yep, i can see why he doesn't want his guys on the field, but i don't want his a$$ here as coach!

 
It's like saying USC doesn't need a decent kicker because they're so good offensively. Elmo the Armo :asshat

 
I think you guys are taking the quote out of context . . . he basically means, "The best defense is a good offense who can hold onto the ball and keep the other OFFENSE off the field," not "Our defense sucks."

As I said, it was poorly worded, especially considering the current situation.
